Northern Hybrid Roses (NHR) is located in Green Valley, a hamlet in the Township of South Glengarry, Ontario Canada. NHR is concerned with the development of grandiflora, floribunda, old garden and shrub type roses in Canadian plant hardiness zone 5 or USDA zone 4 with only snow required for winter protection. The newly developed roses are also resistant to powdery mildew and black spot. Further, the color range has been extended to burgundy, yellow, light apricot and orange which is quite different from the mostly red and pink Explorer and Parkland roses. One of the beautiful orange roses is also highly perfumed - 2.5 on a scale of 3.
Over the past six years we have developed many new winter hardy roses. The photos of the new roses have been added to our existing line photos and are labeled “Test Rose #”. These roses merit further study and codes have not as yet been assigned. For now, we ask rose enthusiasts to be a little more patient with the Queen of flowers.
